We’re looking for an experienced front-end developer to lead our growing team of developers here in Portland OR.
This rewarding and fulfilling role will comprise three complementary aspects: business support, technical leadership, and professional development.
You will set the technical direction of Cloud Four, working closely with our leadership team and owners. This is the big picture stuff: identifying trends and changes in the market and planning appropriate responses.
You’ll help us win work by demonstrating your technical expertise. You’ll help shape our responses to potential clients. You’ll be able to spot gaps and identify any incorrect assumptions in the briefs we receive. By understanding what clients really need—which might sometimes be different than what they’ve requested—you’ll propose alternatives that solve the real problems. You’ll come along to pitches and reassure potential clients that Cloud Four is the right choice of partner when it comes to front-end development.
Once the work has been won, you’ll work with the management team to pull together the right people on the team to deliver the best results. You’ll work together with a project manager throughout the project to make any course corrections to resource and time allocations.
As head of front-end development, you will be responsible for creating the initial technical architecture for projects. That means you’ll need to validate any technical requirements and identify any risks and assumptions. Your experience will ensure that projects are accurately scoped and estimated.
At Cloud Four, we aren’t tied to any particular technology stack. While we might have our own personal preferences within the company, we’ll always choose whatever makes the most sense for the client, our team, and the user. You will oversee these choices of technologies, tools, and techniques.
While others on your team will deliver the bulk of the code, you’ll be there to make sure the code meets Cloud Four’s high bar. You’ll need to roll your sleeves up and deliver some code too, particularly at the beginning of projects, when you’re setting the initial direction.
While technology decisions are important, it’s people that really matter. You’ll be leading a small but growing team of talented developers. You will inspire them and motivate them.
This role will be quite varied. Within the course of one day, you might go from thinking about thorny code problems, to providing an estimate on a new feature for a customer, to figuring out how to land new business in a previously uncharted area of technology.
