We’re searching for an enthusiastic and talented Junior Designer to learn alongside and contribute fresh perspectives to our team of web craftspeople in downtown Portland.
As a designer, you’ll work with a small, multidisciplinary team to identify problems, perform research and prototype solutions to complex responsive design challenges within larger design systems. In addition to traditional design tasks like ideation, sketching and exploratory mockups, the bulk of your interface design work will happen in the browser using HTML and CSS. You’ll be encouraged to use the best techniques the modern web has to offer without waiting for design tools to catch up.
We provide a positive and creative workplace where people can do their best work. We value the unique contributions of every member of the Cloud Four team. We welcome and seek diverse opinions and backgrounds.
We’re not interested in startup insanity. We support our families with reasonable hours, flexible schedules, and the ability to work from home when needed. We offer benefits including medical, dental, vision, and a retirement savings plan.
Cloud Four is a small web consultancy with big aspirations. We started Mobile Portland, organized Responsive Field Day and host a community device testing lab. Our articles are frequently cited by some of the web’s most influential voices. We speak at conferences, participate in web standards setting, and contribute to open source software. We like exploring the frontiers of what’s possible on the web and sharing what we learn.
- A deep understanding of design fundamentals like color theory, typography and layout
- Proficiency with HTML and CSS without relying on frameworks like Bootstrap
- Familiarity with some design tools (Sketch, Creative Suite, etc.)
- Ability to communicate well with internal and external teams, in person or in writing (email, Slack, etc.)
- A deep empathy for the end user, our clients and our team
- Desire to learn, grow and challenge assumptions
Please send your résumé and a cover letter explaining why you’re the right person to join our team to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include links to your portfolio, any relevant profile pages (CodePen/GitHub/Dribbble), or whatever represents what you do best.
If you think you fall just short of what we’re looking for, consider applying anyway. We appreciate diverse perspectives and non-traditional journeys.
